Kunulo Consulting is led by Jean-Michel Pin, an automation consultant based in Seattle, WA with over 25 years of experience delivering manufacturing optimization solutions to fortune 500 companies. COST REDUCTION AND OPERATION COMPLIANCE
THE SITUATION
An oil producer in Alaska was focused on lowering the cost of operations while maintaining production compliance.

THE SOLUTION
The Director for Operation Maintenance and Reliability contracted the site equipment compliance to GSI. Kunulo partnered with GSI and managed the field team doing equipment surveillance. Our team was responsible for the workflow associated with the rounds and reading for all equipment involved in production safety field-wide. We worked with the software vendor to improve the automation of the workflow and report generation. We supported the field engineering team for equipment tagging and characterization and supported the field-wide equipment rationalization project.

THE IMPACT
The bill of material and surveillance routing automated solution is now a standard process across the field. The team has also maintained operation compliance and cut cost by 4 FTE.
RECOVERING NORMAL OPERATION AFTER AN ACQUISITION
THE SITUATION
Ownership of a Specialty Chemical site was transferred to a private equity firm after the parent company filed for bankruptcy. While the automation DCS was left in place to support the process control functions, the IT infrastructure for the site was not fit for supporting normal operations.

THE SOLUTION
The site MES was supported by AspenTech InfoPlus.21. Ownership of the licenses was transferred but the software was not functional. The network infrastructure had been damaged. Kunulo provided the expertise to recover the IT infrastructure, restoring a functional legacy solution in two weeks. We trained the process engineers on the technology, and drew the road map to support continued process improvement. We then partnered with the site management team to drive the technology road map and provide solutions to improve data visibility.
THE IMPACT
The site information silos are now integrated into a performance dashboard supported by the latest technology. The reporting solution is now automated and executes on exception so the engineers can spend more time focusing on throughput increase and less time on Excel spreadsheet generation.
DELIVERING PREDICTIVE MAINTENANCE
THE SITUATION
An oil producer in Alaska had selected GE SmartSignal to monitor the operating conditions of the turbines used in the oil field. The turbines vintage spanned from 1977 to today. The data required by the predictive models was stranded in legacy systems or non-existent. The models had been running for 8 years and have missed all the breakage events.

THE SOLUTION
In partnership with GSI, Kunulo provided system expertise to engineer a workable solution that provides a validated data set to the models. We provided the engineering expertise to un-strand the data sets from the legacy turbines and solution expertise to the GE team working on the models.
THE IMPACT
We unstranded and validated hundreds of data points and restore confidence on the GE models.
